The direct way back home
The journal Junge Wissenschaft published an article, written by Laurin Murer, about the optimized pathfinding functionality implemented for our model railway.
The article is the result of the Schweizer Jungend Forscht research of Laurin Murer. He developed an algorithm for automatically cleaning up the systransis model railway by guiding trains back to their pre-defined positions while at the same time avoiding collisions. Its main challenge was to optimize the train paths so that the last train arrives at its destination as fast as possible. The article appears on page 34 in the 89th issue of the journal Jugend Forscht.
